WCAP Celebrates Week of the Young Child

Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) is excited to announce the upcoming Week of the Young Child celebrations, happening the week of April 1st.

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The purpose of the WOYC is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

WCAP’s Early Childhood Program includes Head Start, Early Head Start, and Pre-K services. We support the whole family in five different component areas: health, nutrition, education, social services, and parent involvement.

Our classrooms are celebrating the WOYC with a county-wide art show! Children from each of our 13 classrooms have created art pieces to be displayed in businesses, libraries, and spaces throughout Waldo County. We will also be celebrating in the classrooms with themed activities based around Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday.

On Friday, April 7th, families and staff will gather at Waterfall Arts in Belfast from 10-11:30am to celebrate. We will have music, art, and share what pieces we saw hanging up in businesses while completing our ‘art passports’.

Keep an eye on our website (www.waldocap.org) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/waldocommunityactionpartners) for fun updates!

We would like to express our gratitude to the Maine National Association for the Education of Young Children for their $100 grant to help us purchase art supplies and materials for our activities.
