Midcoast Sailing Center to Offer Extra Week of Youth Sailing

by | Aug 8, 2023

The Midcoast Sailing Center, a program of Rockland’s Sail, Power, and Steam Museum, has added an additional week of afternoon youth sailing for 8-14 year olds who have some sailing experience. This intermediate level class will be held August 14-18 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

“Participants don’t have to be experts at sailing,” explained sailing instructor, Mylee Smith, “but we’d like them to know some of the basics so we can get out on water quickly. If parents have questions about their child’s level of experience, they can email me at [email protected].”

The sailing center has been running SKFF (Sail Kids For Free) a free youth sailing program from the museum’s waterfront for four years now. “It’s our goal,” added Smith “to give kids the opportunity to get out on the water. While there is a minimal charge for this intermediate class to cover our expenses ($200 for the week) scholarships are available for those who can’t afford this. We firmly believe that cost shouldn’t create a barrier for kids who want to learn to sail.”
