MaineStream Finance Receives Funding from TD Charitable Foundation

Grant will assist the Maine Micro and Small Business Program

The TD Charitable Foundation has awarded $20,000 to MaineStream Finance, a subsidiary of Penquis. The Maine Micro and Small Business Program will provide technical assistance to self-employed/sole proprietors or microenterprises (businesses with fewer than five employees) as well as those exploring entrepreneurship. The program will focus on MaineStream’s six-county target area: Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Knox, Waldo, and Washington.

The program provides business advising services and access to capital for small business owners, predominantly microenterprises and sole proprietors. Microenterprise development is considered both an economic development strategy as well as an anti-poverty strategy, which is especially relevant since MaineStream’s target area includes some of Maine’s most rural and economically disadvantaged communities. By helping individuals to plan and adapt to the current business climate, find opportunities for growth, and secure financing, the Maine Micro and Small Business Program will better enable small businesses to survive and thrive.

“Thanks to the TD Charitable Foundation’s support, we can continue to help small business owners to be better positioned to retain and create jobs, achieve financial stability while increasing income, and contribute to their community’s economic recovery,” states Jennifer Giosia, Housing and Energy Services Director.
