Carol Loggia’s New Exhibition on Display at Pope Memorial Humane Society:

by | May 14, 2024

Pope Memorial Humane Society is thrilled to announce that its newest exhibition of artwork is now on the Art Wall in the shelter lobby. The show, featuring pieces by Carol Loggia, is on display and available for purchase through June 14th, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Pope Memorial Humane Society.

“Carol Loggia is loving life here in Rockland, Maine, where she studies art, dance, music, the water and the sky. Before coming to the mid-coast, she led various lives in various professions, but her parents always wanted her to be an artist. They sent her to the Corcoran School of Art at age 12, where she approached abstraction with shock and awe and big fat brushes. And she still does.

Last year, fascinated by the luminosity of the USPS Spring Tulips forever series, Loggia began drawing the intricacies of these stamps. So, with the invitation to do this show, she saw the opportunity to play with big fat brushes and wet washes. With this show, her “Forever” series, she uses watercolor to express springtime beauty stemming from an awe of the lowly postage stamp.

Carol wishes to thank her many watercolor teachers for their expertise and encouragement: locally at The Art Loft, Mid-Coast School of Technology, The Farnsworth, Five Town Adult Ed and 29 Split Rock Cove; and most notably her first watercolor teacher, the late Deborah Ellis of Mt. Kisco, New York.

She is especially thankful to the late Richard Procopio for initiating the Art Wall, and to Marjorie Strauss for continuing the tradition and inviting her to exhibit; and for Pope Memorial for providing an opportunity to play with watercolor. She hopes you like one or two of her paintings enough to take them home, perhaps with a new furry friend!”

Pope Memorial Humane Society is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. We encourage our community to visit the shelter and see Carol’s artwork and all the adoptable animals. If you are interested in exhibiting your work on the PMHS Art Wall, please email [email protected].

The mission of Pope Memorial Humane Society is to ensure the compassionate care, treatment, and placement of companion animals in transition and to enrich the lives of pets and people in our community.
