Our Portland-based agent Mary Jo Cross was honored with a “Spirit Award” by the Greater Portland Board of Realtors at a ceremony at DiMillo’s On the Water in Portland, an iconic ferry-turned-restaurant in the Old Port. “I can not think of a better candidate who would be more deserving than Mary Jo! She was one of the very first real estate agents to join my company more than 17 years ago,” says Chris Lynch, President of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty. “She was then and still is committed to professionalism, client service, and a passion for all things real estate related.”
“The Spirit Award is awarded to individuals who have been active in the board for 5 or more years and exemplify both enthusiasm and leadership within Greater Portland Board of REALTORS,” says Aubrey, a representative from the Greater Portland Board of Realtors. “This person contributes in all that they do and has that ‘special sparkle’ that inspires others.”
“I am so honored to be recognized by my colleagues at the Greater Portland Board of Realtors and have enjoyed working alongside a dedicated and knowledgeable group of professionals who strive to uphold the values of homeownership,” adds Mary Jo, who joined Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty at its inception in 2006 as one of the first agents at the company.
Mary Jo grew up in Cape Elizabeth, and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in Speech Pathology and moved to Boston upon graduation to explore other opportunities. She joined R.M. Bradley in the commercial division, became licensed, and worked as a site selector for a company specializing in finding sites for franchises around New England. She then joined the Stride Rite Corporation real estate division and choreographed their move to a new corporate headquarters in Cambridge. It seemed appropriate to move into residential sales in Cambridge which she did for the next 8 years. Maine beckoned in 1994 and she became a Relocation Director and built a successful department working with many corporate clients to assist their employees arriving or departing the area. She has an appreciation for both urban living and the slower pace of living in southern Maine.
She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS® and the Board of Directors for the Maine Association of REALTORS®. She was a board member of Casco Bay Sunrise Rotary since 1995 participating in many local and international projects including a trip to Guatemala to volunteer in the Safe Passage program. She was a corporator for the Sweetser School for a number of years and is currently on the Board of Governors for The Woodlands Club in Falmouth. Her Interests include travel, golf, theater, and adding to her extensive antique globe collection.
Join us in congratulating Mary Jo on her well-deserved award!
